Hybrid working is becoming a key part of modern employment, with around 100 million workers across Europe and North America splitting their time between home and the office.
While the impact of this model is still debated, research indicates that hybrid workers report feeling up to 74% more productive.
Reena Cruz, Content Marketing Manager at Xodo, predicts that hybrid working will continue to expand in 2025. She highlights its benefits, including lower quit rates, improved job satisfaction, and greater work-life balance. However, she emphasises that businesses must implement the right strategies to maximise its potential.
“As more organisations embrace hybrid working, it’s essential to leverage the right tools and processes to ensure productivity gains,” says Cruz. “Failing to do so could limit the effectiveness of hybrid models.”
Why Hybrid Working Increases Productivity
Hybrid working allows employees to work in environments where they feel most comfortable, reducing distractions and increasing focus. Eliminating the need for daily commuting frees up time and energy, which can be redirected towards professional tasks. The flexibility of hybrid work also enables a better work-life balance, reducing stress and improving overall job satisfaction.
Cruz explains that while working entirely from home can negatively impact productivity due to a lack of structure and interaction, a hybrid approach provides balance. Time spent at home allows for focused, independent work, while in-office days facilitate collaboration and direct engagement with colleagues and managers.
“Studies suggest that hybrid working strikes a balance between home time, which can be more relaxed, and time spent in the workplace under pressure from colleagues, management, and schedules,” says Cruz. “This approach can work well, but technology plays a crucial role in making it even more effective.”
Enhancing Hybrid Work with Technology
To maximise the benefits of hybrid working, effective communication and collaboration tools are essential. With employees working remotely for part of the week, businesses must ensure seamless communication between teams. Video conferencing, project management software, and online chat platforms help maintain collaboration, while document management solutions play a crucial role in ensuring productivity.
Sharing detailed information in real time is critical for decision-making, compliance, and operational efficiency. Digital tools that facilitate cloud-based document management, e-signatures, and collaborative editing can significantly enhance workflows for hybrid teams.
