Black Business Recommendation (BBR) has launched the BBR Certified Black Business initiative, a certification designed to identify and support Black-owned businesses while helping brands demonstrate their commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Founded by Huw and Lorraine Bellot, BBR Certification aims to provide Black-owned businesses with increased visibility, credibility and access to new opportunities. The certification serves as a mark of excellence, professionalism and trust, helping businesses attract more customers and forge new partnerships. For consumers, it offers a clear way to identify and support Black-owned businesses that meet high professional standards.

The launch comes amid global discussions on economic empowerment, with movements such as the 40-day fast and boycott of major US retailers like Target drawing attention to the importance of directing consumer spending towards Black-owned enterprises. Huw and Lorraine Bellot are encouraging similar action in the UK, calling on both businesses and consumers to prioritise Black-owned companies in their purchasing decisions.

Lorraine Bellot stated, “This is about more than just spending money, it’s about building economic resilience, creating opportunities and fostering a culture of inclusivity.”

Strengthening Brand Reputation and Business Growth

BBR Certification is positioned as a tool to help Black-owned businesses gain recognition and thrive in competitive markets. For brands, working with BBR Certified businesses signals a commitment to diversity and social responsibility, which can enhance customer loyalty and attract partnerships with organisations that prioritise inclusion.

Huw Bellot highlighted the broader impact of the initiative: “When you support a BBR Certified business, you’re not just supporting a brand, you’re supporting a movement. This certification is a testament to the quality, professionalism and innovation of Black-owned businesses, and it’s a call to action for everyone to be part of the change.”

Expanding Opportunities for Black-Owned Businesses in 2025

The certification forms part of a broader effort to strengthen Black business ownership in the UK. In 2025, BBR plans to host activations that connect Black-owned businesses with investors, mentors and consumers, aiming to provide them with the resources needed for sustainable growth.

Lorraine Bellot concluded, “This year will be a landmark year for Black business owners in the UK. We’re committed to creating a future where Black-owned businesses are not only recognised but also given the resources and support they need to succeed on a global stage.”
